Original deviation: [link]
This is a basic portrait. Pretty good, but the facial structure could use some improvement. Faces are probably the most difficult thing to give advice on since so much of it depends on style. I'm going to stick to pretty basic ideas, you can decide if you want to keep any of the advice
1. Here's the original lines of the face (traced). The features don't line up correctly, so the face looks very flat.
2. It's good to start drawing a head as a ball, then make curved lines to guide the features. If you have trouble imagining these lines try using a marker on an orange, then observing how those lines curve from different angles. In a typical face the eyes are about halfway up, and the nose ends halfway between the eyes and the chin.
3. The irises are round, and the pupils make circles. Mouths are tricky... they never make simple curves! The only way to learn them is to practice drawing from photos.
4. Remember to make the glasses wrap around the face, not stuck straight onto it. Hair comes from a single point on the head and radiates in spirals.
5. Pick a light source, then imagine how the light hits the face. Where are the shadows?
6. Don't be afraid to make darker shadows. It will make your picture look more three dimensional.
